Thank you to Don Troiani for th
e use of this painting.
In one of the pivotal moments of the Revolution, on January 3, 1777 when the cause of the patriots hung by a thread at the town of Princeton, New Jersey, Gen. George Washington proved once more to be the savior of the cause. Encountering a British brigade led by Col. Mawhood outside of Princeton, the patriot vanguard was forced back by a charge lead by the 17th Regiment of Foot. At the height of the fighting Washington with his staff galloped onto the field and rallied the retreating troops of Mercer's and Cadwalader's Brigades.

Welcome to the web site of the official friends of Princeton Battlefield.

The Battle of Princeton was a pivotal battle fought on January 3, 1777. The Cause of the friends is to enhance the Battlefield in the following ways:

Through improvements to the Clarke House and the surrounding parklands, which make up only a fraction of the original battlefield
To educate the public about the Battle of Princeton through exciting and scholarly programs and events
To educate through demonstration about life in 18th century New Jersey
To remember and pay homage to those who died in the battle
To work with other New Jersey Revolutionary War sites in preserving, restoring and improving those sites as well as preparing an overall curriculum on the total experience of the War for Independence.
